RGV Epilepsy Support Group

Being a mother to a child with complex partial seizure disorder has taught me more than I could have ever imagined about strength, advocacy, and resilience. It has shown me what it truly means to keep going, even on those days when it feels like everything is falling apart.

Seizures are not just medical events. They are deeply traumatic, not only for the child experiencing them but also for the caregivers who watch, often feeling powerless. As caregivers, we carry silent burdens:

  • Anxiety every time we hear a sudden noise

  • Hypervigilance when our child is out of sight, even for a moment

  • Emotional exhaustion that sneaks up on us without warning

This is real. PTSD in caregivers is a very real, raw experience.

I look back on the hybrid event we held, and it fills my heart with gratitude. It was a beautiful blend of support and connection, both in-person and virtually, where we shared our stories, leaned on one another, and raised our voices for those of us who feel unseen. I’m so proud to have been part of that day, and to have had the chance to shine a light on something that so often goes unspoken: the impact of PTSD on caregivers.

I am forever grateful for the Epilepsy Foundation, an organization that has walked with me through some of my darkest times. Their support has meant more than just resources or medical guidance it’s been a lifeline, offering community, understanding, and empowerment when I needed it most.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on May 16th at the RGV Epilepsy Support Group. Our conversation about PTSD in caregivers is just the beginning. Our healing matters too.

You are not alone. Together, we are breaking the silence.

If you or someone you love is struggling with epilepsy, don't hesitate to reach out to the Epilepsy Foundation, they are a source of invaluable support, resources, and guidance, and you don’t have to face this journey alone.
