An Unexpected Honor: 2024 Woman of Distinction: Military Category

Before Wisdom’s Wellness & Consulting LLC, I was a busy Mental Health Therapist and advocate. I was incredibly honored and humbled to have been selected as the 2024 Woman of Distinction in the Military category by the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. To be completely honest, I was shocked to learn I had even been nominated, let alone chosen. This recognition came as a complete surprise, and I am deeply grateful to those who saw value in the work I’ve dedicated myself to over the years.

While I never sought recognition, As a combat Veteran myself, I’ve always believed in showing up for the people who serve, whether in uniform or in the shadows of service. My journey in mental health has been rooted in a deep respect for our military, veteran, and law enforcement communities. Having worked as a Mental Health Therapist (Licensed Social Worker) with the Department of Veterans Affairs, I had the privilege of treating combat veterans and their families, helping them navigate the invisible wounds of war. I was also part of several crisis response teams during some of our nation’s darkest days, from the Santa Fe school shooting,  to the Austin VA suicide, and joint operations supporting DHS Border Patrol agents dealing with rising mental health concerns.

One of the projects I’m most proud of is founding the first official Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) chapter in the Rio Grande Valley. What started as a grassroots effort to bring veterans and civilians together through physical activity and community has grown into a lasting legacy. Today, Team RWB, RGV Chapter is not only visible at nearly every local race, but also leads the McAllen Fourth of July Parade, carrying the American flag and representing the strength and unity of those who serve.

This award is a reflection of every veteran, law enforcement officer, and family member I’ve had the honor to walk alongside. It belongs just as much to them as it does to me. I’ve simply tried to do my part, advocating for mental wellness, showing up in times of crisis, and helping others heal in whatever ways I could.

Thank you to the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for this meaningful recognition. It’s a reminder that even the quiet, behind-the-scenes work matters. I remain committed to continuing this mission, and I’m more inspired than ever to keep serving with humility, compassion, and purpose.
